No Longer Waiting Around

I was headed in a direction and this person asked me to not leave them behind so I waited for them and encouraged them to catch up, but they kept making stops and taking detours. I continued to wait for and assist them, but they seem to have forgotten the direction they wished to travel.

I’m no longer going to want something for someone else that they don’t want for themselves.

2014 So Far

My job at skating Rink ended and I started an applesauce promo. Since it was a sampling promo in my mind I was thinking “This isn’t going to go well.” After we finished training I thought “This is going to be GREAT!” The day of the event when everything started falling a part I thought “I TOLD YOUUUUU!!!!!” I took the job because it was with a fast paying company(It’s been three weeks and still no word about payment), and they were paying for a training day and a day of work. The upside is I got a super cool umbrella out of it, and I know not to work with that client again.

I registered for classes(what was still available after everyone who registered early had chose their classes), and signed up for a peer mentor. I still have to change my schedule around, but I have to submit an immunization form before I can make any changes. I still have to file my FAFSA, and hope for Pell Grant money. I don’t want any more loans, because I’m still paying them off.

I worked another promo where I was an audience member, and ended up winning a prize I didn’t even know I had entered a contest for. I wanted to hang out for the indoor performance part of the show, but I was sick and didn’t want my prize to be repossessed so I regrettably went home.

I attended the Super Bowl XLVIII Teammate Rally at MSG Theatre and got an official NFL Teammate Pin. The pin made me super happy that I went.

My first official show of the year was Neon Gold’s POPSHOP NYC 3rd Anniversary at The Westway. I saw Bel Heir, but was only there for Joywave and left right after. It was great to finally attend a JW show with a friend, and that friend was of course AngieLove. She got the email about the Teammate Rally and we went to the rally and then Westway. Before we got to the concert we accidentally crashed and art gallery event. It was warm inside and we didn’t know we were in the wrong place until we couldn’t find the stage. When we reached our proper destination even though it was well after 8pm doors had not opened yet. We finally got in around 8:30pm and I am glad we went early, because there were seats against the wall that filled up fast. Unfortunately concert humper racist Chris was there and ended up monopolizing most of Angie’s time. Even though my camera/lenses are old and broken I managed to get decent shots.
(Click photo for full set)

The crowd seemed to be filled with groups of friends who had more experience with clubbing than concert going. All the giant men NEEDED to be in the front and made sure no one was going to get in their way. There was far too much shifting going on for my liking and at one point a woman wrapped her leg around my leg stepping on my toe and tripping herself. During JW’s set I couldn’t wait to get out of there! One of the giant men asked me the band name and I had to get super close to him to tell him. He was pretty, and had no scent. After JW’s set the room which was constantly being pumped with fog became unbearably foggy and I said goodnight to Angie and fled.

Fred Mascherino announced that he was added to a charity show and I didn’t make it to see him. I’m kinda bummed about it, but I was sick and folks I didn’t feel like seeing ended up going. I haven’t seen Fred since 8/11/12; hopefully I’ll see him a bunch in 2014.

I have been sick off & on since Dec and tonight I finally feel almost 100%. I no longer have a cloudy head and sore throat. I won a FOX/Uber contest and now have $25 towards a ride.

Another Day Another Snowstorm

I wanted to see Cody Simpson’s acoustic tour tonight, but because of the storm it looks like that isn’t going to happen. The show will go on even though Mayor Diblasio told people not to go out if they don’t have to and most businesses have closed at 4pm. Not only is the show not cancelled, but 100 more tickets are being sold. I was in talks to purchase a ticket from a girl who said she was going to the show “no matter what,” but she can’t make it because of the storm. Cody Simpson wouldn’t go out in horrible weather to see me; so I’m not going out to see him.

This isn’t my first snowbummer concert experience. My first snowbummer concert experience happened in Dec 2013 when I wanted to see All Star Christmas starring The Backstreet Boys w/ Plain White T’s and Avril opening. That show too went on as scheduled while I stayed warm at home. Another show that I was interested in seeing tonight was at Best Buy Theater and presented by MNET. For some reason MNET keeps bringing KPOP stars to NYC in the winter. It’s like they don’t actually care that although we are used to having cold winters we would prefer not to be out in the cold at night. I understand that people see the winter months as a break from stadiums and open air arenas, but while the venue is warm the road to the venue is usually brutally cold and dangerous.

Wheat from the UK

In 2012 a lot of chaff was sent over from the UK, but thankfully 2013 is starting to look full of wheat.

My second concert of 2013 was a Lastfm sessions show featuring Jake Bugg. I learned about the show from MyFreeConcert‘s facebook and entered their contest to win a guaranteed spot at the show and won. I listened to some of the songs posted on Jake’s facebook and thought they were okay, but I wasn’t really into them. Seeing Jake live made me fully appreciate his work. He sings, plays, and performs well; and he is a nice guy. After the show he stayed by the stage and met everyone and was genuinely interested in what people had to say. He asked everyone their name, and he even pronounced my name properly.
You can watch his full set here: http://originals.last.fm/sessions/lightning-strikes-as-uk-import-jake-bugg-plays-intimate-nyc-gig

My fifth concert of 2013 was Lawson at Bowery Ballroom. I learned about the show a while back from one of AngieLove’s “friends” and ended up winning tickets from MyFreeConcert. The show was listed as “Sold Out”, but out of 600 tickets 400 attended. Usually at sold out Bowery shows you can not even think about moving around, but no one had a problem leaving the crowd to see what Kevin Jonas was up to and then returning to their spot. Kevin Jonas was in attendance to support his brother in law(Mikey Deleasa) who was supporting Lawson that evening. Lawson went above and beyond for their debut! They play wonderfully and together, sing beautifully, had excellent lighting, did a mini acoustic set, and even had video projections behind them. After the show they met people downstairs and outside amidst a frenzy. I hung back and ended up getting an Andy guitar pic from a crew member.

The next day AngieLove and I went to get group photos at their Livestream broadcast.

My last concert of January 2013 was a Lastfm sessions show featuring Emeli Sandé. I’m glad I won a guaranteed spot from Lastfm, because by the time I arrived there was barely room left. Emeli’s voice is STUNNING. After every song it felt like a standing ovation was necessary.

Went to the library because they have air conditioning and it’s easier to edit photos when your computer isn’t burning up. It was a super hot day and a homeless man came in to get out of the heat. He entered the library, took a look around, and told everyone they are in league with the devil. The security guard said, “It’s too hot for this” and the homeless man replied, “I know! I know! I’m leaving.” and left.

Got to Warped Tour Toronto late. Had to wait for the Downtown Fiction’s tour manager to come out and get me in because the tickets I earned through Photo Finish’s street team were not actual tickets. I was given Alan’s laminate to walk in and I had just missed TDF perform.
I didn’t miss The All-American Rejects(the reason I went to Toronto Warped in the first place)

and I got to see The Pretty Reckless

Went to Warped Tour Montreal by winning a Warped Reporter ticket. It was my first time in Montreal. From what I saw it’s a pretty place. I had to get people to answer survey questions and it would’ve been difficult if a lot of them didn’t speak english, because I don’t speak french. I couldn’t be on stage during The All-American Rejects’ set because the person in charge of escorting the Warped Reporter winners didn’t want to take me on to the stage because I was the only one who wanted to go. This was the second year that this had happened to me. If your job is to take winners on to the stage of their choice it really shouldn’t matter if only one person wants to go. Everyone filled out their surveys alone and everyone won alone. I went on stage during Bring Me The Horizon’s set because that was the only other choice. If I had been on stage during AAR I could’ve watched them with David from Simple Plan.

Took another pic with You Me At Six. Everyday they stayed at their tent after their set and signed for and took pix with everyone(Anarbor did the same thing for their fans as well).

Took another pic with Tyson. I L♥VE that lil dude photobombed it.

Got to see The Downtown Fiction

Took pix of The Summer Set during their signing. I told John and Josh to get together for their photo and John slammed his head into Josh’s head. John didn’t feel the pain from the hit, but Josh did. I laughed hard and loud.

Went to Warped Tour Camden NJ as press. This year Warped had their own pit security pushing photographers around in the pit. During The All-American Rejects set one of the security people tapped me to move to let another photographer take my spot. I have no idea what that was about. My favorite part of Warped Camden is knowing I’ll see Fred Mascherino whether he is playing or not.

I ended up using AngieLove’s new SLR instead of my regular little camera because I was being hassled by security at some stages.

Went to Warped Tour Uniondale NY as press. Got confused about the stages twice and ended up getting to We Are The In Crowd’s set during the last song, and You Me At Six’s stage during the last measure.

Saw Hot Chelle Rae for the first time and realized they were the band that wrote the song “Bleed” years ago

Stayed an extra song in the pit during Artist Vs Poet

I didn’t know it would be the last time I was going to see Alex Johnson with The Cab :”{

Saw AAR play then went to Hiro Ballroom to see Mat Kearney. Mat was on an acoustic tour playing old favorites and previewing new songs. He sang a disturbing song about his father’s childhood and ended it by saying, “Everyone’s fine now.” At the end of the night a few people waited inside until the concert area was transformed into a club and then finally Mat Kearney came out and met folks. He always takes forever. His tour manager was nice enough to let us now that he was leaving now and could be found in the loading dock/garage.

Went to Warped Tour Oceanport NJ as press. It was my last Warped of 2010. It was also my first time in Oceanport, and I only went because AAR was playing.

flickr.com/ArtistApproach

I was determined to take a pic with Chris Gaylor, because he was the only one of AAR I hadn’t taken a pic with yet. The press area was behind main stage and I accomplished my mission when he got off stage :D.

I finally made time to photograph I See Stars

and Bring Me The Horizon

After AAR’s set I said bye to lil dude, took a mental picture of him and headed home.

I was told I had a photo pass through The Secret Handshake, but I only had a ticket and wasted the evening not taking pictures of the show. Every Avenue was also playing the show and Dave hugging me thrice made the evening slightly better.

Monday July 26, 2010
Went to my favorite movie theater AMC Magic Johnson Harlem 9 to see Toy Story 3. I think I saw it in 3D. The fact that I can’t remember if it was in 3D or not means that if it was in 3D there were no 3D moments and I wasted extra money for no reason. There was a summer camp of young children in the theater with me and I was pleasantly surprised at how quite they were throughout the film. I still can’t believe that Lots-O’-Huggin’ Bear did what he did to Woody and the gang. The whole Toy Story series has been consistently excellent and I’m glad they ended it well. They kinda left it open for a possible spin off featuring the little girl and that’s cool too.

Tuesday July 27, 2010
Went to see Maroon 5 at Beacon Theater for their album release show. I got tickets through Gotham Casting, but also won tickets through M5’s fan club. i had never won anything through the fan club before. The fan club was promised special seats in the front, but were cleared out right before M5 took the stage and were replaced with Gotham Casting people. I was in the first balcony, and was glad I wasn’t able to get up front earlier. At the end of the night I took a poster board of the band to add to my collection, and waited for them to come out. Mickey was the first one out followed by Jesse. Jesse took millions of years with everyone and never made it through the whole crowd. When Matt Flynn came out he was kissing some ladies and someone on my side said they wanted kisses too. When he crossed over to my side and was next to me he stuck his lips out into my face. I jerked back and spun him around so he was in the proper position to take a picture with me. James came out before Adam and ladies who I let temporarily in front of me for pix refused to move for my James pic, but luckily James is tall and I was able to take the shot from the sky. Adam refused to attempt to make it through the whole crowd.

Tim Foreman of Switchfoot took his family to the Central Park Zoo and I took his family entrance photo.

After work I went to see a new band called Burnham. Z100 had a showcase for them at Bowlmor Lanes in Union Square.

flickr.com/ArtistApproach

Z100 took crappy meet & greet photos and my photo along with a few other people’s photos didn’t come out well and weren’t posted on the website >:{. The contest winners were supposed to attend the show and bowl with Burnham. After the show everyone was kicked out and Burnham went to go bowl. I tweeted about being bummed about not being able to bowl and they tweeted what floor they were bowling on and told people to come if they weren’t chicken. They were already in the middle of bowling so AngieLove her friend and I took turns bowling as different family/band members. I bowled during Burnham’s mom’s turn a lot. They’re a really nice family.

Friday July 30, 2010
Went to see the Goo Goo Dolls and Switchfoot at Jones Beach. During Switchfoot’s set Jon Foreman ran through the arena singing and climbing on railings and people. After Switchfoot’s set they did a m&g.

flickr.com/ArtistApproach

After the m&g I went back to my seat and a few ladies refused to believe that it was my seat. They never had to show an usher their tickets, but I was forced to.

I was happy to finally be able to see the Goo Goo Dolls perform, but after the show getting home was upsetting because the MTA stops busses to and from Jones Beach at 8pm. I had to wait in a cab until the cab driver got enough customers to make going back to the LIRR worthwhile for him >:{.
